LaStarsha Dixon

LaStarsha Dee McGarity was born on September 17, 1990 to Ld and Rose McGarity in San Antonio, Texas.  She found her passion for the arts very early in life and was granted a Young Artist scholarship to the Southwest School of Art.
As a student at Texas Southern University, her career path was altered when the historic murals at Texas Southern University were in jeopardy of destruction. LaStarsha left the path of an Artist and decided to become an art conservator. During the restoration of John T. Biggers’ mural, Family Unity, in the student cafeteria, Evergreene Architectural Arts (EAA) allowed her to observe the process of conservation and stabilization.  As an intern she gained valuable experience which further propelled her desire to specialize in conservation. Ms.McGarity completed her BA in Art at Texas Southern University in 2013 and although she is actively pursing a career in Art Conservation, she continues to paint and is currently featured in the 6th Biennial Art Alumni exhibition at the University Museum.
